Rug Size Guide

Rug Size Guide

Choosing the right rug size can make your room feel more balanced, comfortable and complete. Use this guide to help select the best size for your space.

Living Room
For smaller living rooms, a 160 × 230 cm rug can work well with a coffee table and the front legs of your sofa positioned on the rug.

For larger living rooms, consider a 200 × 300 cm or 250 × 350 cm rug so the seating area feels connected and well proportioned.

Dining Room
Choose a rug large enough for the dining chairs to remain on the rug when pulled out. As a general guide, allow approximately 60–75 cm of rug beyond each side of your dining table.

Bedroom
For bedrooms, choose a rug that extends beyond the sides and foot of the bed. Larger rugs placed underneath the bed create a comfortable and balanced look.

Hallways & Runners
Choose a runner that leaves some flooring visible around the edges. Measure the hallway carefully before selecting your runner.

Choosing the Right Rug Size

The right rug size can make a room feel balanced, spacious and beautifully put together. As a general rule, choose a rug large enough to connect your key pieces of furniture rather than one that sits alone in the middle of the room.

Living Room Rug Sizes

For a balanced living room, choose a rug large enough to connect your seating. Ideally, the front legs of your sofa and chairs should sit on the rug. For larger rooms, placing all furniture legs on the rug creates a more generous, cohesive look.

Dining Room Rug Sizes

For a balanced dining space, choose a rug large enough for all chairs to remain on the rug, even when pulled out. Aim for around 60–75 cm of rug beyond each side of the table for comfortable movement and a beautifully proportioned room.

Bedroom Rug Sizes

For a comfortable and balanced bedroom, choose a rug that extends beyond the sides and foot of the bed. Ideally, allow around 50–70 cm of rug to show on each side, giving you a soft landing underfoot while keeping the room beautifully proportioned.
